Understanding the Trustee Role
Trustees serve as part of a governing body. Responsibilities include:
Setting district policy
Providing oversight and governance
Hiring and evaluating the superintendent
Trustees work collectively as a Board. Individual Trustees do not manage daily operations, supervise staff, or intervene in individual student, personnel, or campus matters.
How to Raise Questions or Concerns
Most questions or concerns are best addressed at the level closest to the issue.
As a general guide:
Campus-specific matters are typically handled by teachers, counselors, or campus administrators.
District-level questions may be directed to the appropriate district department.
Board-level matters generally relate to policy, governance, or district-wide oversight.
Starting with the appropriate campus or department helps ensure concerns are addressed promptly and through established processes.
Trustees welcome community input on governance and policy topics, while operational and individual matters are best handled through district channels.
If you’re unsure where to start, I’m happy to help point you to the appropriate district or campus contact.
Why This Structure Matters
Public education relies on clear roles and processes to serve students effectively. Respecting these roles helps protect student privacy, ensures fairness, and supports timely resolution of concerns.
